PostSubject: Horn Plates   Tue May 05, 2009 2:08 pm

Hi all, I have come across what i think is an error in the drawings.

Where the Backhead of the boiler sits in relation to the rear of the horn plates, The drawing gives 2x measurements - the top of the horn plate has dimensions of 50mm and 55mm - adding up to 105mm, and down the bottom the dimensions are 110mm.

Has anyone come across this before? and can anyone give me the correct measurement for this.

Regards
Jordford

greetings everyone.
as mentioned in earlier posts there are many anomolies and mistakes in C & B plans. the distance at the rear of the boiler to horn plates is governed by the cylinder and trunk guide. once the cylinder and trunk guide are mounted on the boiler tube the con rod and slipper assembly will tell you where they want to be. that is; the slippers in a central longitudinal position in the trunk guide. the crankshaft is in a fixed position
relative to the rear of the horn plate. i wouldn't get hung up about the measurement at the back of the boiler at this stage of construction.
my observations are for a copper boiler. i dont know about a steel boilers.
perhaps others can comment. Smile

Hi, I didnt notice the error & because of this I had trouble with clearance of the big end over the boiler. I did work around this but it ment redesigning the big end. Just be careful and work with the measuremnts to give the greatest clearance.
